About Us

History

Central Kansas Education Credit Union first became Salina City Teachers Credit Union on November 30, 1960 under the direction of John Page, Mary Anne Lee, Dorothy M. Barekman, Darrell D. Bentz, Jean M. Lester, Louise Maxwell, Kathryn A. Billings and Donald D McBeth. Its first location of business was in a residence.   It was stated their field of membership would be limited to “Teachers of the school systems in Saline County;  Members of their immediate families and organizations of such persons.”  The original board of directors would consist of 5 members.  At the same time, they formed two other committees: Credit Committee and a Supervisory Committee.  Each committee would have 3 members.  To open a share account, it was $5.00 and an “entrance fee of $0.25.  Members were issued a “passbook” to track the money that they deposited or withdrew.  If the member lost their passbook, it would cost them $0.10 to replace.

On May 11, 1989, the Salina City Teachers Credit Union passed an amendment to change the name of the credit union to Saline County Teachers Credit Union.

On December 23, 1992, the credit union moved from a home residence to 2740 Belmont Avenue.  This was in a physical business facility under the management of Beth Commerford, Manager.

On August 10, 1999, the Board of Directors amended the field of membership to include Saline, Dickinson, McPherson, Ellsworth, and Ottawa counties.  In addition, they opened to all employed staff within the education institutions.

On May 1, 2010, the credit union moved its location from Belmont Avenue to 631 E. Crawford St., Suite 207, in Elmore Center, under the management of Trula Harris.

On May 18, 2016, the Board of Directors amended the name of Saline County Teachers Credit Union to Central Kansas Education Credit Union effective September 1, 2016, under the management of Trena Lackey.  This was to reflect our field of membership changed to all staff employed by education institutions and the additional counties.

In March 2019, the credit union moved to its location from Crawford St to 1101 S. Ohio St., Suite D under the management of Trena Lackey.
